History of St. Veronica's Parish (Part Six)

A Timeline of Events : 1980 to Present

1980 - The year was marked with the death of another former parish priest, Father Harold Brennan, who was pastor during 1941-1943. Father Brennan also retired to our parish where he lived in residence until the time of his death January 2, 1980.

Four lay ministers of the Eucharist installed.

1983 - Two additional lay ministers installed. This brought the total to 20 lay ministers of the Eucharist to serve the parish.

1984 - June 1: the first ordination to the Permanent Diaconate and first installation to the Diocesan Order of Women took place at St. Veronica's. Rev. Mr. Len Monico, son of Mrs. Connie Nardi and the late James Monico, and his wife, Ruth, were ordained and mandated to the Order of Women by Bishop Bernard Pappin, P.P. auxiliary Bishop of Sault Ste. Marie.

September 23: Hector Fera of our parish was the recipient of the Diocesan Order of Service medal presented by our pastor Father Brian Dixon.

1985 - June 29: our second ordination to the Permanent Diaconate - Rev. Mr. Ren Bertolo, the son of the late Sam and Angelina Bertolo. He was ordained here at St. Veronica's by Bishop Bernard Pappin, P.P. auxiliary Bishop of Sault Ste. Marie.

1986 - Six lay ministers of the Eucharist installed. This brings a total of 26 lay ministers of the Eucharist installed to serve the parish.

April 27: Catholic Women's League Regional Mass took place at St. Veronica Church.

May 24: A crimson red maple tree planted on church grounds to commemorate the 50th Anniversary by pastor Rev. B. Dixon.

August 10: First annual parish picnic took place at club 48 grounds on the Airport Rd.

August 31: Parish flag presented to pastor Rev. B. Dixon by the fiftieth anniversary committee to commemorate our proud past and confidence in the future.

August 31. Blessing of carillon took place. This carillon symbolizes the first fifty years of our parish. New church organ blessed. This organ replaces one that was approximately 30 years old.
