History of St. Veronica's Parish (Part Three)

The original church was erected by parishioners who were so eager and proud to have their own church that they gave of their time and effort. The countless bazaars, bingo and other socials that were held as a social gathering as well as provide the funds to help pay the parish debt. Even though our history began with a humble church, the vibrant and enthusiasm of this parish community is something we are proud of. From the guidance of former pastors and curates, the Sisters and teachers of our schools, the countless altar boys, caretakers, the scrubbing of wooden floors, the tending of coal-burning stoves, the songs of joy sung by our capable choirs, the sportsmanship of our athletic programs, the ordination of our young men, the religious life of our young ladies are an a credit to this humble, but proud, beginning.

Our original parish community consisted of 300-400 families and two schools - St. Joseph's and St. Stanislaus school. Today, the parish community is made up of 1,200 - 1,400 families and three schools - St. Veronica, St. Stanislaus, and Our Lady of Lourdes. St. Joseph's school was erected in 1921 and served the parish until it closed in 1984. In addition, many of our youth attend St. Mary's College and Mount St. Joseph high schools.
